The author of A Butterfly Saw a Speck, Yvette Provosty, didn't know she liked science until she was 25 years old. Her interest in science education is related to her own childhood experience learning about science: dry toast.
The author takes her pen name, Betty Vettie, from her mother's nickname, Betty, and her own nickname, Vettie. It was the author's mother who taught her to read and love books. Currently, the author lives in the Rogue Valley of Oregon but she's lived all across the USA in Louisiana, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Washington DC, Montana, Utah, Idaho, Washington State and Minnesota.
